Chef Walter Staib is a recognized expert on eighteenth-century American cuisine, and has participated in documentaries on the subject for such outlets as The History Channel, A&E, and HBO. 

   In 2006, he was named “Culinary Ambassador to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” and since 1996 he has been “Culinary Ambassador to the City of Philadelphia.” 

   He has appeared on Food Network’s “Cooking Live with Sara Moulton,” and is the host of “World Cuisine of the Black Forest,” a cooking show filmed on location in Germany and the U.S. which airs on Comcast’s CN8. 

    A native of Pforzheim, Germany, he has worked in the hospitality industry in one capacity or another since he began peeling garlic and doing odd jobs at his uncle’s restaurant at just four years of age.  In addition to his responsibilities as proprietor at City Tavern, Chef Staib is a renowned food and beverage consultant who has contributed to the successful openings of more than 450 restaurants worldwide through his eponymous consulting firm, Concepts by Staib, Ltd.
